# Content License — All Rights Reserved

**The prose content of this repository is all rights reserved.** It is *not* released
under a public copyright licence, and it is **not** CC BY 4.0.

> **Note on an earlier revision.** Up to commit `82018d3c` this file described the content
> as *CC BY 4.0*. That description contradicted the rights notice at the top of `README.md`
> and the intent of this project, and it is withdrawn. A licence, once granted, is not
> revoked: copies obtained while the earlier description was in place remain governed by it.
> This file governs copies obtained from now on.

## What you may do without asking

- **Cite** — quote a short passage, an entry identifier, an entry title or a table, in
  academic, journalistic, evaluative or public-discussion work, **with attribution**.

## What requires written permission

- Republishing the catalogue, in whole or in substantial part, in any medium;
- Translating, adapting, abridging, or producing any derivative work;
- Bundling the content into a product, a paid service, a course, a dataset, or a
  machine-learning training corpus;
- Removing or altering the attribution or rights notices.

Requests go to the contact line below. A request that serves the project's purpose — a
course, a translation, a standards submission — is normally granted; asking first is the
whole cost.

## Attribution, when you cite

    Silent Failure Catalog, <entry-id> "<entry title>", Xinghua Zhao (Steven Zhao·China), <as-of date>. All rights reserved.

---

**Note on attribution practice.** This catalog deliberately uses `as of` dates on every entry.
When you cite an entry, cite the entry id, the title, and the `as of` date. A fix can regress;
an undated citation becomes a false claim over time.
